I recently had the opportunity to attend an event on artificial intelligence combined with RPA (Robotic Process Automation). Partners and clients of the global leader UiPath shared success stories, transformation journeys, and tools shaping the future of operations. A key highlight was the introduction of AI embedded directly into the RPA platform.

In this article, I explore core concepts, the early stages of RPA adoption, practical use cases, and the implications of this technology based on insights from the event. In a next article, I will go deeper into how AI integrates with RPA and its impact on enterprise operations.

Improving how we manage everyday processes will increasingly require creativity to evolve business models and apply technology effectively—and this is no different with RPA and its continued evolution.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) acts as a digital workforce running behind the scenes of your organization. These software robots execute repetitive, rule-based tasks with speed and precision, freeing teams to focus on strategic and creative work while automation handles operational execution. Its accessibility and ease of deployment make it viable for organizations of all sizes.

What distinguishes strategic work from operational work?

Real-world process examples

Consider a financial analyst focused on tax planning, scenario analysis, and advisory work, while a software bot handles reconciliations, report generation, and accounting classifications for later validation. This human–machine collaboration increases efficiency and decision quality.

In tax operations, analysts define strategy and identify optimization opportunities, while RPA handles document processing, tax filings, calculations, and regulatory tracking—ensuring compliance and accuracy at scale.

When not to use RPA

Short-lived initiatives or processes requiring major system redesign may also not justify automation investment.

Conclusion
