Why is it still so important to discuss gender equity?

March – Women’s Month

Why is it still so important to discuss gender equity?

Commemorative dates help foster discussions and reflections on socially sensitive topics, and Women’s Month is no different. Celebrating achievements and driving conversations that lead to meaningful change—addressing the challenges that still persist—is essential.

According to UN Women, 2025 is a critical year for advancing equality and defending the rights of all women and girls, as empowering the next generation is key to lasting change. In addition, only five years remain to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with Gender Equality as Goal 5 among the 17 objectives.

In the technology sector, we know the challenges are significant. Statistically, women represent 52.2% of the Brazilian population, yet according to PNAD, only 20% hold roles in technology. Even women who graduate in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) face barriers when entering the job market, including gender stereotypes and sociocultural constraints in a space still predominantly male. According to Programaria: “The future is being written in lines of code. And although women are users of apps, social networks, and digital devices, they are not equally represented in building technology. We need to talk about the challenges women face in the field and what it takes to increase their participation.”

At DB, we are committed to increasing the participation of women in our projects as well as in leadership roles.

In addition, we remain committed to fostering discussions around sociocultural barriers to gender equality. Topics such as harassment against women and anti-sexism education for men were part of our agenda last year, along with engagement with education and tech communities focused on empowering women.

DB was awarded in 2023 the “Em Frente Mulher” Seal by the Government of Rio Grande do Sul, an initiative designed to strengthen engagement in combating violence against women and reducing gender inequality. In 2025, we will apply for renewal of this certification through a new evaluation taking place this month.

We also prioritized women in the START DB 2024–25 internship program, reaching 65% of hires. Soon, these young women will be part of our projects as Developers and QAs.

We want to celebrate these achievements and cultural advances while staying firmly committed to achieving gender equity at DB, guided by intersectional principles and ensuring space for ALL women. We believe it is possible.
